昨天看到有Japanese applicant 來參觀學校不自覺想起2008年5月來到Claremont時的情形

這才發現還沒有寫過有關IF program的事情而現在或許是最適合寫的時間點

因為正逢很多新生正在猶豫要不要參加這個課程的時候

IF program是Drucker MBA program 為了 TOEFL成績不到 IBT 100分的國際學生所提供的語言課我參加的時間是2008年5月整個課程分為兩個module, 大致上是六月份一個module, 七月份一個module

課程內容包含聽說讀寫文法發音口說會話簡報

主要是為了MBA的國際學生設計所以課程內容也被設計成以business English為主

就我自己參加的經驗我覺得這個課程品質相當不錯

老師都很有經驗(Pitzer College的老師) program本身已經存在好幾年所以每年也都有改善

這邊的老師對國際學生很瞭解也很有興趣可以幫助台灣學生很快速融入這邊的生活

而不致於整天只待在家裡說中文尤其因為參加的還會有其他國家的國際學生 (主要是日本同學)

所以還蠻容易在MBA正式開始前交到一些朋友對於第一個學期的融入會有很大幫助

缺點: 貴!

每年這個program的學費應該多多少少有點變化

不過應該算是數一數二貴的語言課程

雖然有很多其他的附加價值個人也覺得因為這個program, 已經忘記了的英文有又回來不少

尤其口說部分多兩個月的練習真的差別很大

但是這學費真的很貴或許是讓人忘之怯步的主因

基本上我還是推薦這個課程

尤其對於自己的語言能力信心不足的新生

參加這個program雖然不能保證什麼但是一定會有幫助

尤其提前兩個月來美國把所有雜事都先搞定

學期開始應該也會比較快進入狀況

RSM Exchange Program-5. Others

1. Here is the comment from another student who came to RSM before. Again, this is only for reference.

I took e-Marketing course from a Canadian prof. It was intense, a 1 week course, 6 hours per day; but if its OK for you, I enjoyed it a lot. Also, negotiation course was OK, it was a bit boring but if you like negotiation, you may take that one. I also took, Supply Chain, International Investment, Future of Advertisement, Consumer Behavior courses. I wouldn't recommend Int. Investment, but all others are good. Consumer Behavior was also enjoyable, and easy.

2. Life in Rotterdam.

RSM will hold an orientation for exchange students. Just remember: BLAAK Market is the best place to buy fruit and vegetable.

3. Commend

I think it was a good opportunity to extend my vision, so I applied for this program. And I DID learn and enjoy it a lot. It was a nice and unique experience to stay in Europe alone for 4 months for me.

RSM Exchange Program-4. Course Evaluation

1. Innovation Management, Professor Shlomo Maital

Well, I think the professor is a nice and kind guy. He shared some interesting videos about entrepreneurship during the class. (cases and speeches) But I will recommed CGU classmate sending me a e-mail for detailed info if he/she is interesting in this course.

2. Consumer Behavior, Professor Peeter Verlegh

This course is good. Prof. Verlegh is a young and energetic person who shows you a lot of passion and energy in the class. People who want to concentrate on marketing can consider to take this course.

3. E-Marketing, Professor Michael Parent

This course is interesting. We need to read two cases for each session in 7 straight days but the professor handle the discussion very well. I will recommed people who are interesting in marketing to take this course because they will need to know the jargons and tools in the new business world.

4. The Future of Advertising in a Changing Media World, Professor Annet Aris

Also very intereting course. Prof. Aris asked people in this course to "vote" for a question and then discuss that question during that class. After discussion, there was a guest speaker to give us some specific topics for the future of advertising. Those topics and guest speakers are from 4 main perspectives- consumers, media company, media agency, and advertisers.

For example, in session 7, we needed to vote for a queston "Google will be able to diversify its revenue away from search (adword and adsense) significantly (>25% of total revenue) within the coming 3 years." After discussion, prof. Aris invited people from google to give us their opinion from the perspective of media company.

5. International Finance, Professor Anoop Rai

Highly recommed to those who are interesting in finance, even if you don't have any financial background. Prof. Rai used very easy language to explain complex financial tools such as Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS), Credit Default Swaps (CDS). I learned lots of useful tools and knowledge from this course.

6. Strategic Value Management, Professor Murray J. Bryant

Highly recommed to those who are interesting in strategy. This course is like a changing management course. We discussed how to react and develop in a shifting environment. Prof. Bryant was highly involved in all the cases discussed in the class. Therefore, he gave us very specific and useful comment in the discussion.

Interesting Stuff-Google Wave

No matter you guys heard about this or not, maybe you can take a look about this, I think it is a kind of cool tool for communication and collaboration.Although, I haven't figure out how to use it to be a useful tools~Orz. RSM Exchange Program-3. Registration

Q: What should I do for my registraiton? How many units can I take?

CGU faculty will help you to go through the registration progress. In my case it is Jeannie. You just need to send Jeannie an email to tell her which courses you will take in RSM. Also you need to tell Jeannie if you want to choose Letter Grade or Pass/Fail Grade when RSM transfer your grade back to CGU.

RSM will ask all students to take 6 elective courses. Each elective course is equal to a 2 units course in CGU. Therefore, you will take 12 units, which is equal to the minimum requriement from CGU. You may take one more elective course in RSM, but you need to ask RSM's faculty and there's no guarantee for approval.

Q: Should I choose Letter Grading or P/f Grading?

The majority of the students studying abroad choose the p/f grading due to the difference in the grading scale used by our exchange partners. For example, in RSM, professors are asked to give grade based on learning curve distribution. Only top 10% of student can get 4.0, "A" letter grade. Following you can see the detailed info:

Letter Grade / GPA / Tiers

A / 4 / Top 10%
B/ 3.5 / Following 25%
C / 3 /Following 30%
D / 2.5 / Following 25%
E / 2 / Last 10%
F / Failed

You can choose whatever you want and change to another one when you come back to CGU. For example, you can choose letter garde first, then change to p/f grade when you come back. However, you'll need to submit a petition to the Dean of Students to request that the grades be changed to p/f and there's no guarantee that it will be approved.

Q. How would I know which elective courses I can choose and whether those course is good?

Again, You will get an email from RSM with your user credentials for Blackboard and RSM email address. Blackboard is a IT system similar to Sakai in CGU. In blackboard, you can see the information about the courses list, individual syllabus for each course, and the evaluation results for each course from the last year students. You will have full access to those information to help you to choose elective course. It is somethat competitive to choose a "hot" course because RSM uses a "bidding" system for the registration.

(In the next article, I will give my own evaluation for your reference.)

Q. What is the bidding system?

Each student will have 1200 points to do the bidding for 6 courses. You need to allocate those points by yourself. It is all confidential before the end of bidding period. Then in the end of bidding period, people with higher points in the course will be enrolled in that courses automatically. For example, if "A" course only allowa 35 students to take, but there are 50 students putting their points on "A" course, at the end of bidding, the 35 students who put the highest points will get A course.

There are totally two period for bidding, and some specific rules if you want to choose EMBA course. You will get the full information in the email.

RSM Exchange Program-2. Preparation

If you successfully get the chance for RSM exchange program, RSM will send you an email very soon to illustrate what you need to do. In the following I will mention some inportant points in the email ( and my own comments)

You need to send to RSM

1) Copy of passport (can also be digital)
2) 4 passport photos
3) CV
4) your complete filled-in personal information form ( They will provide in the email)

Buddy

Each exchange participant will be assigned a MBA10 buddy, but personally I think it's useless. My buddy didn't answer any question for me.

Visas
If you needs a Visa for entering EU, you will also need to provide:

§ copy of your passport including any relevant pages i.e. containing possible residence permit for the country in which you are currently studying

§ legalized copy of birth certificate (please send an English translation of your birth certificate)

§ proof of financial status, usually copies of bank statements are sufficient to prove that you can support yourself while in The Netherlands

§ proof of medical insurance (if you need to arrange this, you can visit www.acepolis.com/ips

Housing
RSM has a dedicated housing office that assists in finding accommodation for the exchange students. Housing office will provide more detailed informaion. I lived in International house. (I-house) It's a very comfortable environment. You can see some photos in the following link:

I suggest you can choose the number after 670. So you can go to the terrace easily to enjoy the beautiful view.

Banking
I didn't open an bank account here because I think it's too troublesome. I've heard that there is an opening fee plus monthly fee. So I just withdraw money at ATM from my BOA account. But if you want, you can ask RSM staff and they will be happy to help you.

RSM Exchange Program-1. Application

Well~I guess it's time for me to keep my promise of writing articles about the RSM Exchange Program. One thing I have to say in advance: this is only for reference, and all I know is based on my experience in 2009 RSM exchange program. The situation may change, so please get the updated information by yourself. Let's start from the application part.

1. How many choices for exchange program?

So far as I know, CGU/Drucker has different exchange progarms at each year based on how many schools are willing to provide the opportunities. In 2009, there are two schools for MBA exchange program- RSM in Netherlands, and St. Gallen in Switzerland.

2. How can I know the school list and the number of opening?

In my experience, CGU will send an email to the CGU account, in Middle March, to announce the school list and the application process. Usually each school will only accept one or two exchange students. In 2009, three people went to St. Gallen, and one person, which is me, went to RSM.

3. What should I do for the application process?

In the email, CGU asked students who were interesting in those exchanges programs to submit an essay. In that essay you have to explain four things: 1) why do you want to study abroad? 2) Why do you think you are qualified for the exchange program? 3) How will you represent CGU? 4) How will you contribute to the host school?

The questions may be slightly different, but I think that's what you need to answer. Here I have two suggestions for writing the essay. First, involve your CGU experience into your essay. CGU has reviewed your resume when you applied for CGU. So don't say something they already knew, try to put some new stories in your essay. Second, understand the host school and involve its feature in your essay. Let CGU know you are really serious about the exchange program.

4. When will I know the result?

About two weeks after the deadline, you will get an email.

I guess that's all I know about the application process. Hope it's helpful ^^

杜拜金融危機

1.杜拜債務危機　金融業者受拖累

杜拜世界(Dubai World)將重組260億美元債務，包含其子公司Nakheel World及Limitless World債務。該企業資產高達750億美元，其中410億美元為Nakheel所有、150億美元為海港所有、200億美元為Isitithmar所有。但這些資產並非流動資產，且海港為重要策略性資產，不會隨意出售，因此杜拜世界將無法隨意變賣資產。而杜拜政府刻意劃清界線也顯示，政府不會如以往資助杜拜世界，杜拜世界償還債務及重整債務將面臨困難。

受影響銀行
英國銀行業者，如匯豐銀行(HSBC)、巴克萊(Barclays)及渣打(Standard and Chartered)將受杜拜債務影響最深。這些當初投入數百萬美元進杜拜房地產計畫金融業者，恐將面臨數10億美元資產減計。但要準確預估各銀行投資損失，相當困難，目前數據為阿聯總共投資，而並非杜拜企業整合。除此以外，也無法確認該銀行是否已出售其貸款，分散風險給全球投資者，並將杜拜爛攤留給較小銀行或投資機構收拾。

2.杜拜房地產過度開發　引爆債務危機

1980年以來，杜拜因石油有限，而嘗試多元投資如媒體、交通、金融、設立自由貿易區、觀光產業等，並在1990~2000年期間開放外資，投資房地產及觀光產業。經濟繁榮期間，競爭使經濟成長快速，但也演變成高風險房地產投資計畫越來越多，在經濟成長高峰盛期，全球資金打舉流入，使房地產計畫越來越大膽，但政府卻未能管制。

自雷曼兄弟(Lehman Brothers)2008年倒閉以來，外來投資減少，使杜拜財政吃緊，資金流動受到嚴重影響。除此以外，房價慘跌，也造成企業債務增加。匯豐銀行(HSBC)預估，金融危機造成杜拜房市總值，至少驟跌50%。

3.新興市場恐出現重大修正

有「新興市場教父」之稱，現坦伯頓資產管理公司(Templeton Asset Management)總裁墨比爾斯(Mark Mobius)日前表示，負債高達590億美元的杜拜國營投資公司杜拜世界(Dubai World)日前向債權人尋求延後償債，引發市場對全球金融業壞帳攀高預期，導致全球股市下挫，多家企業信用違約交換(CDS)大幅攀升。導致全球各地針對新興市場違約的保險成本也迅速攀升。

此外，不能排除杜拜債務危機惡化成重大主權債違約問題的可能性，進而衝擊開發中國家，而流向新興市場的資金潮恐怕將因此中斷。如同2000年初期的阿根廷或1990年的俄羅斯一樣，全球新興市場均遭到波及。加上多家新興市場大型企業陸續推出首次公開發行股票(IPO)，可能引發新興市場股市出現「重大修正」。

4.杜拜泡沫衝擊金融股？　高盛：可控制

根據彭博(Bloomberg)報導，包括高盛集團(Goldman Sachs)與瑞士信貸(Credit Suisse)在內，日前分別公布報告指出，歐美金融業受到衝擊幅度仍在可控制範圍。根據高盛集團報告，分析師估計匯豐控股(HSBC)與渣打銀行(Standard & Chartered Bank)潛在損失分別為6.11億美元與1.77億美元。最糟情況下，杜拜違約僅衝擊2家銀行股東權益約1%，對獲利衝擊則低於5%，皆屬於可控制範圍。

5.杜拜曝險部位　台灣恐超過陸韓

根據彭博(Bloomberg)所做統計，經訪問大陸、南韓與台灣大型金融機構後，包括中國工商銀行、中國建設銀行、中國銀行與中國交通銀行在內等大陸4家大型銀行，皆否認在杜拜世界(Dubai World)擁有任何曝險部位。南韓金融主管機關則於稍早透過南韓媒體MoneyToday表示，截至2009年9月南韓金融機構對杜拜世界曝險部位為3,200萬美元。

但根據彭博所提供數據，台灣第一金控在杜拜世界曝險部位為2,500萬美元、新光金控為620萬美元、台新金控為1,500萬美元。再加上國泰金控(Cathay Financial)與華南銀行(HuaNan Financial)曝險部位1,000萬美元與750萬美元。總計光是這5家銀行，在杜拜世界曝險部位就有6,370萬美元，較南韓金融業總額高出1倍。

Drucker Centennial Week 心得 - Shengfu Wang

The Drucker Centennial Week celebration finished with Drucker Centennial Day yesterday. We had Jim Collins, Charles Handy, and many other great guest speakers coming to Claremont and share all kinds of insights with us, especially about "Why we need Drucker now, more than ever"!

I was really excited that we have the chance to meet Jim Collins and can hear from him about Drucker's philosophy. And he didn't disappoint me at all! One sentence that really touched me is this, "The great leaders are extremely ambitious, but not for themselves!"

People tend to think the basic stuffs are not as important and new thoughts or innovations. Although some new ideas are pretty excited, the sincerity, honesty, trust, etc, are still the most important characters for a successful leader. And people usually forget these things because they are simply too basic.

There must be reasons that great leaders/thinkers are always talking about the basic things. However, many people focus only in narrow field and ignore the importance of the big picture. Human beings have unlimited capability, but we like to limit ourselves all the time.

One advice that Jim Collins offered was to "build your own personal board of directors. People selected not for their accomplishment, but for their character. The people you will be

embarrassed talking to if you are thinking if this is really a right thing to do."

Every of his suggestion is just so deeply touching my heart, and I almost agree with every of them sincerely.

When Jim Collins talked about the first meeting between him and Peter Drucker. When Drucker left his advice for Jim Collins, Peter was not worried about Jim's survival in academic, nor about Jim's career or financial success, but Peter asked Jim to think about how to be useful. And as Jim Collins recalled, that 10 seconds conversation changed his whole life.

This week truly reminded me how great Peter Drucker is. The week also convinced me once again that I am extremely lucky to be in this fantastic school. Thanks for Jim Collins, I again listened to a speech with tears in my eyes.

As a co-director of Marketing Club in Drucker School, I was proud that I really have some trustworthy partners to work with now. The result can be so easily seen as we presented the club booth. On that booth, we had the collaborative work of many people in marketing club. The booth was beautifully designed and decorated. We had Prof. Darroch's new book presented on the booth. The certificate of being one chapter of American Marketing Association was so shining. I am also grateful that members designed different materials that make our project successful. To present the business card the member designed in the booth, I felt really proud.

This semester, the Drucker Marketing Club is having many activities and events going on. We are having guest speakers coming in next two weeks, too. I am really glad we are having members keep joining our events!

The final part I'd like to share is about the conversation with Masatoshi Ito, the founder and honorary chairman of the Ito-Yokado Group. His friendship and working relationship with Peter Drucker spanned more than three decades. Ito San is an amazingly humble person and a great leader in Japan. I am so honored to be in the school named Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito School!

Ito San was really kind and took time to meet Drucker School students. Because this event was decided at the last minute, we were worried that we could not broadcast the information fast enough to draw people to this event. However, we soon found that the worry was so stupid. Ito San is such a great leader that his appearance drew attention by nature. We ended up with a room full of people, and crowd even outside of the room.

Ito San talked about his relationship with Peter Drucker and how he learned from Peter. In fact, Peter insisted to have Ito's name on the school because he believed Ito San is a practical side of himself! Seeing the true friendship with two great men, I was deeply touched and felt so proud to be associated with them.

Non-surprisingly, the values that Ito San deeply embeds in every aspect of his thought totally match what Peter and all other great thinkers believe. They all value social responsibility, honesty, and dignity. They all dislike the "money centric" and "profit-only" ideas. Just like Jim Collins said, "The great leaders are extremely ambitious, but not for themselves." Ito San is a great example and role model for us, which I truly appreciate!

In this photo, the person in the center who had the great smile on his face is one of our professors. He is teaching self-management in our school, a field that is very important for knowledge workers, but are not addressed by most "B-schools" at all.

I have been studying in Drucker School for more than 1 year. Of course, this school is not perfect, and it's small with limited resources.

However, where can you find a school that all the professors are really passionate about teaching and students' success? Where can you find a school that everyone is so friendly and so tightly working together, even as volunteers? In what kind of business speaking sessions, you can find your eyes wet all the time while listening to different great speakers talking about their dream and Peter's dream.

The Drucker School is great. I am extremely lucky to be here and to share all the great thoughts with many many great people.

從CGU mail設定自動轉寄信件到自己常用信箱

因為大家很少常態性的用browser收cgu mail而且cgu mail並不能設定使用客戶端軟體收信(ex: outlook), 但是偏偏學校很多正式的公告都是寄到這個信箱, 所以建議對於不習慣常常上去收信的同學們可以使用其轉寄功能.

以下簡短介紹設定方法:

首先必須要使用IE登入信箱, 才能夠進行設定, 登入後, 在左側選單列可看到這個畫面

點選 "規則" 進入下一個畫面

在畫面上方選單列點選 "新增", 規則名稱可以隨意取,

在"當" 的區域

收件者欄位打入你的cgu email address

在"然後" 的區域

選擇"轉寄給" 並打入自己常用的email address

設定後選擇

"儲存後關閉"

就大功告成啦

但是這樣的設定, 有些學校寄的群組郵件, 會因為收信者是一個群組而非你的個人email address而不會被轉寄到, 所以還是偶而要查看一下cgu mail, 但相對的, 用這個方法也會過濾掉許多不重要的群組信, 有好有壞, 請斟酌運用

裡面的NSHMBA 天佑, Alex(MBA 2009), 跟我去年都有參加 (還有一位已經找到工作的強人學姐Janet), 這個career fair 相當大, 參加公司都是很值得去談的公司, 尤其對於新來的同學們, 是一個很好的磨練機會, 也是找intern很大的一個平台, 今年NSHMBA是在十月八到十號, 可惜今年天佑不會一起去了(去鹿特丹找洋妞吧你), 但是Alex和我都已經回覆career center說我們要去, 所以在這邊把資訊post 出來邀請大家一起參加, 磨練磨練也見見世面, 尤其最近就業市場似乎有比去年此時好一點, 或許有些同學可以在這邊找到工作.

對於非MBA的同學 Alex和我都還是建議大家研究一下參考一下因為根據我們去年參加的經驗 career expo的工作職缺通常不會只限制在MBA學生雖然或許有七八成是business major的職缺如果有中意的公司或想要去試試身手這都還是一個很值得去的career fair

修課經驗分享: Global Strategy & Trade - Oxford Program, Drucker School of Management

I Just finished the trip in Oxford, UK. This is a nice trip with all kinds of different experiences.

Although it's an interesting and fun trip, I did go there for a class: Global Strategy & Trade.

Many Drucker School senior students recommended this class to me, and after taking it by myself, I would like to recommend this class to everyone in Drucker School & CGU, too.

This class does not only open to MBA students in Drucker School, but also accept PHD students in CGU and, of course, EMBA students. This structure of students makes the program more diverse, and I appreciate it.

There are two professors and many guest speakers giving lectures during the two weeks in Oxford. We had either lecture from professor in the morning and guest speaker in the afternoon, or vice versa. The assignments were heavy but helpful, we needed to finish all the readings and writings before we arrived Oxford so that we can enjoy the time being there.

All the social events and tours arranged in Oxford were interesting. Although I could not understand the Shakespeare play, I did enjoy watching it. We visited Wembley Stadium and Mini car plant, and both were pretty informative and fun.

The best part is the interaction with classmates and professors. Every student stayed in the same dorm and we were all having the same schedule for classes, events, and meals. Thus, we could know everyone at the end and had closer relationship. I did enjoy knowing different people, especially when everyone is interested in Globalization.

Anyway, this is a really nice program that opened my eyes. The classes and speeches were from all different kinds of perspectives, and having class in Oxford is a totally different feeling from having class in Claremont. I strongly recommend everyone take this class if possible because I found it really valuable!

Drucker School Golf Competition

Before my internship started, this is my last social event.

It's really fun to play golf with professor, EMBA student, alumni, and school director/dean, especially under the Spring weather of Southern California.

If you ever wonder whether this golf competition is worth to join, it is strongly recommended!

I was teamed up with MBA director, our OB professor, and an EMBA student. They are all very very nice partners(Drucker's culture!) The rule of this game is basically based on the team performance. We played only "the best ball" in each team each shot, so every team seemed to have really good score and people had little pressure on individual performance. It's a relaxing game, really.

Since I came to California, golf has really became enjoyable to me, and it's my pleasure to attend Drucker School's social event. It's so lucky to study here and to find out the fun of golf. Let's play golf and join social event together in CGU!

環遊美國之旅_Mesa Verde National Park

這天我們拜訪了Mesa Verde National Park。
據說這是美國唯一一個因為歷史文化而建立的National Park。
這裡的重點是有許多神祕的建築物鑲在岩壁中。
想像自己站在莫名消失的文化遺骸裡，
一切像是從空中編出來的。

到了公園剛好是午餐時間，Visitor Center的薯條跟炸雞塊意外的好吃。

這就是Mesa Verde的重頭戲--Cliff House, 屋如其名: 把房子建在懸崖裡。

費盡力氣要去參觀Cliff House, 好險午餐有吃夠多。

進去Cliff House跟出來的路都很窄，吃過多可能無法順利穿越。

進到Cliff House, 大家圍著聽Rangers的講解($3/per person)。我們參加了1:30pm的group, 講解的工作人員Joshua很可愛也很專業。

出去也要爬階梯，不過都不長，沒有想像中恐怖。

另一個遺跡--Spuce House, 我們爬進Kiva(先住民房子的名字)裡面, 感覺好神奇。裡面很涼爽，感受不到外頭的高溫。據說下雨也不會有水跑進去。

Mesa Verde是我個人強烈建議一遊的地方，因為歷史的痕跡讓人讚嘆人類的智慧。

解說員說考古學家認為這些住民建立一個cite像Cliff House可能要花100年的時間。

據估計，這個文化曾經非常繁榮，建築技術也很進步。

我想他們能在岩壁的中間鑿出一處住所並得以保存至今，

建築技術應該有一定水準。

晚上我們住在山下的小鎮，Cortez。

對面竟然有一家24小時的Walmart, 比Claremont還酷，也算是旅途小驚喜。

橫跨美國之旅第五天_by April

今天起了個大早出發去Antelope及Monument Valley.

早上8點開始趕路對還在睡夢中的我們實在有些too much。
果然馬上在Kanab小鎮被抓超速。

還好警察伯伯有把我們的慌張及配合看在眼裡，

沒有讓我們付太多罰款。

平常我們開的路段速限大多在55~65 miles中間，

但一進城鎮馬上就減為25~35。
一不小心，罰單馬上找上門。

開了2個半小時，到達了以美麗照片出名的Antelope Valley。

入園加Tour Guide一個人total要$31。

正在嘀咕"好貴"的同時，Upper Antelope映入視野，

藍天白雲下佇立在平原裡的巨大石陣令人頓時忘了一切抱怨。
在Upper Antelope，我們可以走進石陣目睹陽光與這些岩石們所共同創造的美景。

剛好我們在中午開始tour, 充足的陽光讓我們的照片留下了完美的紀念。

照片比眼見的還要漂亮，據說是因為相機的視野比人眼寬，

所以照下的影像顏色會比肉眼所見的鮮豔。

這也是為甚麼Antelope吸引了許多有名的攝影師，捕捉了許多精彩的畫面。

接下來繼續開將近3小時前往Monument Valley。

這裡的重點是有許多不同形狀的岩石散布在一望無際的沙漠紅土中。

我們還很勇猛的開車繞了石陣將近40分鐘，

一路顛簸不已，但很有石林冒險的Feel~

又餓又想睡又忙著驚嘆，Monument Valley對我們來說實在是一個繁忙的景點。

今晚我們住在一個叫Mexican Hat的小鎮，

好險有足夠時間讓我編排這些照片，

從下次開始我可能要改一下排版以節省時間。

今天的Antelope實在太殺了，希望接下來也有一樣令人感動的行程等著我們。

Road Trip@2009 Summer_by April

大家好, 我是April,
從今天開始會不定期Update這個暑假的美國之旅。
希望能提供大家一些旅遊訊息，也藉此留下這次旅程的足跡。

從5月20號開始, 我與Hiroshi先生規劃的環遊美國之旅正式開始。
因為我們決定使用自己的車，

兩個人毫不客氣的把整個後車廂及Trunk塞滿了水及食物。

從Claremont出發在Las Vegas停留了三個晚上。
這次我們住了New York New York, Encore, LV Hilton.
Encore 的Tower Suite跟Wynn的格局裝潢都非常像,
但我們都偏愛Wynn的空間感及設計。
這個房間周末原價大概$270，B-U-T會這麼奢侈是因為我們可以住免錢低!!
有一個訂旅館專門的網站Hotels.com，只要你訂滿10個飯店，
他們就免費提供一晚免費的hotel.(up to $400)
我們這次就是用免費的一晚去住了Encore。

來Vegas 有點太頻繁的我們，開始對Slot Machine失了興致，
(當然也是因為輸了錢high不起來~~)
但第一晚在Mandelay Bay看的音樂劇Lion King實在令人太印象深刻了，
建議大家有機會到Vegas可以考慮入場觀賞。
音效好的整個像CD，
我不停的Check表演者的脖子想找出對嘴的證據，
但眼前的指揮令我不得不相信這一切都是Live來的，騙不了人啊!!
我在百老匯也買過$30的票坐很高很後面看過這部音樂劇，
感動的程度跟這次的VIP座完全無法比，
如果有同學想坐後面一點，建議帶望遠鏡會好一些。

離開了Vegas, 今天我們非常有活力的跑了Zion 和 Bryce Canyon 兩個National Park,
因為這個周末是Memorial Weekend, Zion 到處都是人。
我們停留了約3小時，

搭園內巴士去了最遠的Temple of Sinawava及Weeping Rocks, Human Museum。
Weeping Rock石如其名從頭上的岩石不停的滴下水珠，值得一看。
Museum後頭的Towers of the Virgin的寬闊感也不停的謀殺我的底片。

離開Zion, 我們接著前往Bryce Canyon,
在這個Park我們開車停留了幾乎每一個View Points,
Natual Bridge, Bryce Point, Inspiration Point, Sunset Point 是幾個最令我印象深刻的View Points.

這是我首次從心底被美國的自然景觀感動。
這些深橘，淺橘的岩石風化而成的形狀有如聚集谷底的一群大小尖塔，
塔上布滿肉眼可見的直橫條紋，
令人驚嘆自然的刻鑿藝術及強大的侵蝕能力。

總算完成第一天的國家公園行程，經過有驚無險的迷失方向後，
到達了現在的Motel所以能Update目前的行程。
實在是太累了，明天我會Update照片供大家參考。

Drucker School 課程介紹 by Shengfu Wang - Marketing High-Tech Products and Innovations

Course Title: Marketing High-Tech Products and Innovations

Instructor: Jakki Mohr

這門課開在暑假的剛開始時的intensive課程, 今年(2009)是開在五月中旬, 教授是位和藹可親但算嚴格的女士

幾乎上過這門課的學生都覺得這是一門不錯的課, 我也不例外.

本來不想上intensive課程, 因為教的錢是一樣, 內容卻總覺得被濃縮了, 而四天的課程也有時候會讓人消化不良

但是, intensive的課程也有他的好處, 短時間內大量的吸收資訊, 對於這個領域有興趣跟有背景的人, 會是很有意思的課程

Jakki Mohr這個教授對於這門課很有經驗, 對這個intensive的上課方式也已經發展出一套教法,

所以大多數學生雖然有時覺得累, 都還挺能夠接受的

課程內容多數著重在電子產業, 網路, 以及消費者市場, 教授以前在HP工作, 所以對電腦業自然了解最多

不過在這次上課的過程中, 對於其他高科技產業的相關問題, 教授也大多可以有不錯的回答跟建議

教科書就是上圖這本

Jakki Mohr就是主要作者, 所以會把整本書的重點精華拿出來教

教授的講解簡單易懂, 對學生participation的掌握也恰到好處

唯一缺點仍然是時間太短, 無法將每個理論的細節一一介紹, 有些章節也跳過沒有深談

不過整體來說是一門好課教授雖然算是客座卻是每年都來也有Drucker School Faculty的特質:重教學品質, 重視學生意見, 有豐富教學經驗

對於高科技產業有興趣的同學, 相信這門課會是不錯選擇.

有別於Drucker School Mentoring Program，Community Friend Program是由I-Place發起的一個mentoring program。透過一些住在學校附近的志工，主要是退休的老夫婦，提供初來乍到的外國留學生一些生活上、語言上、經驗上的協助。見面的時間大約是每週一次，每次一個小時，實際情況因人和情況而異。任何Claremont Colleges的學生都可以透過I-Place提出參加的申請。

以我個人而言，從第二個學期開始，就固定每週會和我的community friend見面。他們是一對老夫妻，住在學校附近的一個退休老人社區。聊天的話題天南地北，涵蓋社會時事、旅遊、歷史等等。一開始，語言上的收穫是讓我想要參加的原因；可是久了以後，我覺得更大的收穫來自於眼界的擴展，分享來自不同文化及不同年齡層的觀點。這也是我在Claremont最大的收穫之一。

總之，我很推薦這個program，也相信大家都能從中獲益。另外，我相信學校一定還有其他很多類似的資源，只要你願意花一點時間，絕對會有比想像中還大的收穫。我一直覺得，留學的時間很短，代價卻很高，不想盡辦法替自己的留學生涯添些色彩，將來肯定會後悔的!

Drucker Students Take National Title in Net Impact Case Competition!

On February 21, 2009 a team of four Drucker School students won first place in the final round of the Net Impact Case Competition hosted by the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The team consisted of Tyler Barrell, the school’s Net Impact chapter leader, Jay Hinton, Emi Makino, and Sarah Schwald. This is the first time the Drucker School has advanced to the semi-final round in the Leeds competition, now in its 8th year. The competition has grown to include over 85 teams from most prestigious schools around the country. The Drucker School team took first place over University of North Carolina (2nd) and MIT (3rd), winning $6000 in prize money.

Jay Hinton noted, “Sustainability is an issue that is relevant for all companies, and one that can be positively affected by measures both great and small. The wide range of finalists is a shining example that the NIIC competition is an opportunity for all students concerned with the triple bottom line, not just big name programs. This is a big win for CGU, the Drucker School, and Peter Drucker's legacy.”

The competition was sponsored by Vail resorts, who over the course of the event challenged teams to address three issues relating to their company and how they embrace sustainable practices. The competition occurred in two parts, a preliminary round via the internet, and a final 24 hour event in Colorado. Teams arrived in Colorado to be given the “zinger” of the case, a game-changing alteration to preliminary data that had been sent out 10 days before.

The final round challenge consisted of two parts; a charge to increase the number of riders on Vail’s newest acquisition, Colorado Mountain Express, in order to reduce traffic, and propose initiatives and possible acquisitions that would increase Vail’s goal of creating a total customer experience while promoting sustainability. After an all-night, 12-hour preparation session, presentations began. Twenty teams of four presented in the morning, and five were selected to present again for the final round in the afternoon.

The preliminary round took place between November 17th and December 3rd, 2008. The required deliverable: an 11 page slide deck with less than 75 words per page outlining a plan for building a corporate culture with sustainable ideals for the Vail Resorts. After much toil over many ideas, the team submitted a plan titled “Extraordinary People, Exceptionally Engaged.”

“I believe that in the projects that we created we put forth strategies and philosophies that Drucker would appreciate as having been built on his works,” says team member Sarah Schwald.

The final round consisted of the following schools:

Drucker School Alumni Mentor Program

Drucker School 是個很小但大家關係很緊密的學校, 校友對學校也都很幫忙, 入學第一個學期就有一個校友的mentor program, 學校方面已經累積了相當多有意願當mentor的校友, 我們只需要報名就可以了, 他們會根據每個人的不同興趣, 不同背景, 去找出最合適的組合, 並且幫校友和現在的學生作連結

第一個學期這個mentor program有一個kick-off dinner, 所有有參加這個program的mentor & mentee都參加, 並且在這個餐會上互相介紹, 玩一些小遊戲, 開始認識彼此, 之後呢就各自發展了, 有點像聯誼一樣的過程, 而mentor都是在這邊工作的校友們, 會答應參與的也都是很熱心的好人, 我也很幸運遇到一個很好的mentor, 雖然他是很忙碌的人, 每隔一個月總會和他有些聯絡, 通電話, e-mail, 在 Drucker Day碰面聊天, 他還幫我約了他打網球認識的一個在這裡工作的台灣人一起吃晚餐, 因為他那個朋友也是弄電腦相關的, 也給了我不少建議, 同時, 可以更加了解這邊的文化, 多認識一個很有善很熱心的美國人, 又是校友, 可以聊很多學校的課業啦, 生活上的困難啦, 之類的話題

本來大家參與mentor program或多或少有希望藉此找到工作, 但那不是真正的目的, 這個program的收穫或許也不只於此, 有很多人不懂得把握機會好好跟mentor聯繫, 我覺得很可惜, 但也很多人和mentor變成很好的朋友並且把關係持續的維繫下去

總之大推這個mentor program, 應該不要想跟工作有什麼直接關係, 就是一個誠懇, 有不錯的事業, 的校友願意花時間和我們認識, 並且幫忙我們, 我覺得這就是Drucker School 讓人喜歡也最有價值的地方

Hi, This is Shengfu, MBA 2010 candidate in Drucker School.

I like Apple products, I like watching movies, I love to talk with friends, I love great foods, and I like traveling. Now I am staying in CGU dorm, too. Everyone is welcome to come and talk with me!

I suggested everyone to co-host this blog so that we can share information and introduce our school to more prospective students in a more efficient way.

It's very pity that Claremont Graduate University can not be well known in Taiwan. I believe we all like to share and help prospective and new coming students, but we just have no platform to do it. Since blogger is a free and convenient service, let's leverage it.

這篇節錄自天下雜誌第410期2008年11月的文章雖然提到的是教學方法的問題，但對於一個研究生來說，文中所提到哈佛大學的博雅教育有五個目標卻是我們必須奉為圭臬的方向：

　　一、獨自探索世界

　　二、建立對知識的好奇

　　三、具備探詢與解決問題的能力

　　四、能把找到的解決方法與他人溝通

　　五、培養創造力，用嶄新方式看問題

研究"僧"之路漫漫，能不能從Dartmouth搖擺的走出校門，就看能在這兩年的學習過程中，經由這五種指標學習到了多少的知識、經驗、及直覺。小弟我是09年最菜的新生.... 我也期許自己跟各位大大們互相學習。最後這第一篇，還是很老派的說一聲.... 共勉之....。

大家好!!因為王聖輔同學在今天的下午跟我提了要寫Blog這件事....我真的覺得很感動,聽了都哭了!!
怎麼會有人這麼有心想要做這件事.....由於如此就來發言一下!!
先來個自我介紹,我叫林峻國....可以叫我屎國就行了...是數學系碩市班的學生!!

吃飯的話....我首先會推薦學校的餐廳,
因為是很便宜的自助餐而且可以吃完又帶一個大便當出來,等於是花一餐的錢可以讓你吃兩三餐!!
最後就是不可以不認識的人了,在下來這裡快一年了....認識許多的朋友!!

想要知道快門，光圈，相機，王鏡的人士請止步，因為這個組織的重心並非在儀器，但是展示的作品都是用傳統的 C-print。很多都是印在 Fujiflex Supergloss 上面，所以有 Cibachrome 的感覺，很有生命的影像。

The Annenberg Space for Photography 在 3/27/2009 於 Century City 開幕。位於Century Park 的南邊，The Annenberg Space for Photography 是著名的 USC Annenberg School of Communication 與 University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School of Communication 背後的 Annenberg 基金會主辦的一個專門為視覺/攝影而設的展示館。

Century Park 的主要建築是 Century Plaza Towers，是由 Minoru Yamasaki 所設計的。一眼望去，可以看到 NYC World Trade Center (WTC) 的影子。沒錯，WTC 也是 Yamasaki 設計的。多年來成為洛杉磯法律等行業的第一選擇。律師的住址要不是 Century Plaza 的話，就無人問津。因為如此，幾年前 Century Plaza Towers 以南的空地加建一棟新的大樓，命名為 2000 Avenue of the Stars。在同一個時段，Century Plaza Towers 的大廳也重新裝修，與新的建築的風格呼應，成為一體。南加州沒有多少代表性的建築，而 Century City 因為離高速公路有一段路，所一一般觀光客不知道這棟大樓在七零年代曾經是最大的立體停車場之一，而且規劃完善，直到今天，還能夠讓擁擠的汽車出入方便。

說到停車，因為這裡是辦公大樓，所以週末毫無人煙。因此平日 8:30—16:30 (M-F) 三個小時 $3.50 （蓋章後的優惠價）的停車費用在 16:30 之後入場，或者週六/日全天的三小時停車費用是 $1.00。

第一梯次的展示已經開始，6/28/2009 截止。這一次的展示可以看到以下駐於洛杉磯的攝影師的作品：

這兩位的作品大家可能都很熟悉。他們的作品多半與建築有關係。Julius Shulman 的處女作與多數的作品是 Richard Neutra 設計的建築，而 Tim Street-Porter 以他的現有光源與 'lived in' 風格，改變了大家對建築攝影的刻板印象。

這兩位攝影師出名於他們與明星的融合力。在他們的快門前，明星可以毫無顧忌地流露真情。
以下幾位是駐洛杉磯時報多年的攝影記者
Carolyn Cole 在多次的戰地攝影融化了敵人與戰友的界限，也讓她多次得到了 Pulitzer Prize。
Lawrence Ho 在 1992 年的洛杉磯大動亂作品也為他帶來了 Pulitzer Prize.
Kirk McKoy 是洛杉磯時報的資深 Feature Photo Editor，也得了兩次 Pulitzer Prize
Genaro Molina 也是洛杉磯時報的資深攝影記者。

Catherine Opie's 的 "In and Around Home" 將她特殊的親身經驗經過視覺淋漓盡致地表達。

John Baldessari 的社論式的重點（黃/紅/藍) 塗鴉博人一笑。

在這個建築的正中心有兩個面對面的光面，後投射的螢幕。非常高的品質，把多有展示的照片用多媒體的方式呈現在觀眾眼裡。不過也因為如此方式，大家可以親身體會，沖印在 C-print 上面的畫質還是無法被投射式，甚至 Quad-HD (3840 x 2160) 所取代。

每個星期四的晚間 18:30 開始有攝影師的演講與示範，要事先預約。

微軟是贊助這個組織的成員之一，所以裡頭有兩個大螢幕 (42 吋）的 Surface。不讓我驚訝的，就是工作人員說，那兩個電腦的作業系統承受不了使用者的正常使用，整天當個不停。更妙的是，研究室裡頭有兩部電腦，一部 Windows Vista，一部 Macintosh，可是都用 23" 的 Cinema Display。就算 Cinema Display 的影像品質普普通通，整體上來說，這個空間對設計的風格要求嚴格，所以只有 Cinema Display 通過考驗。對了，那兩個 Surface 的玻璃桌子也設計得非常漂亮。

最重要的，不要看 MapQuest/Google Map。我告訴各位一個捷徑。

當你出來的時候，千萬別看路標，跑到 Robertson 去（E)，或者跑到 Overland （W)。照原路回高速公路。照路標往東走，上 I-10 東向的話，會跑到 Robertson 去，那就毀了。上列的那些路徑會碰上五個 Stop signs，但是路上都是西洛杉磯的正點住宅區。非豪宅，但是非常高雅的住宅區，很養眼。在上下班時間很快的就能夠到達高速公路出入口。這個是電影界與當地居民才知道的路徑。

Entrepreneur Magazine: Drucker Graduate School of Management Named One of the Nation's Top 15 Business Schools by The Princeton Review

Claremont, California — The Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University has been named one of 15 top business schools for General Management in The Princeton Review’s Student Opinion Honors for Business Schools, a recognition that was highlighted in the April 2009 issue of Entrepreneur Magazine.

“We are very honored to be among the top schools named in The Princeton Review’s top business schools list as published in Entrepreneur magazine,” said Ira Jackson, Dean and Professor of Management at The Peter F. The Student Opinion Honors for Business Schools identifies MBA institutions whose students overwhelmingly agree that it offers extraordinary preparation in six core business areas including: accounting, finance, general management, global management, marketing and operations. Fifteen schools in each category were selected based completely on surveys conducted by The Princeton Review and completed by more than 19,000 MBA students attending the 296 schools profiled in its book, “Best 296 Business Schools: 2009 Edition”. The 80-question survey asked participants to rate their experiences in the classroom and on campus, and how they rate their MBA program in preparing them in all six categories.

“This national recognition from Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine comes on the heels of the recent success that the Drucker School student team achieved in winning the national NetImpact case competition at the LEEDS School of Business in Boulder, Colorado,” added Dean Jackson. “Competing against some 85 other business schools, Drucker bested the teams from the University of North Carolina, Harvard, Stanford and Kellogg, and the team from MIT in the finals, for first place honors, the national title, and the $6,000 prize. 搶頭香的自我介紹

HaHaHa, 搶頭香

今天是2009年的四月28號凌晨, 王聖輔同學提出了這個部落格的idea,我覺得很好,因為剛好跟我這學期寫的paper很像,還有史班塞大大之前也有提出過雖然我們兩個學電腦的一直沒有動靜~><~要介紹CGU的話~~首推~一定要住宿舍歐,今天是落成的第一年,我來這裡認識了很多有趣的人,哈哈宿舍附近出foothill左轉,有一個plaza,裡面有一天冰店很好吃歐叫"Fruizen",而且有免費的優格,只要你有coupon,Drucker有很多可以拿歐~~~~~~~~~~~~~~哈哈哈哈哈,裡面的珍珠奶茶也不錯,我們今年I-festival 有賣歐~~推推推,~~~對了都忘記自我介紹,我叫唐國倫,念的是IS=Information system, "丟是電腦啦~",我也會變魔術~有興趣的人可以交流哈哈哈
